A personal journey with assistance dogs
Nico's journey with assistance dogs is deeply personal, as he himself is a part-time wheelchair user with his own assistance dog. This lived experience provides invaluable insight into the needs and challenges faced by assistance dog users. He shares his home with five dogs and three cats, spread between his own and his parents' residences, and is eagerly anticipating the arrival of a Swiss Shepherd puppy soon. Nico lives with his fiancée, Shadow Bailiff, who is also a valued member of our team. He is continuously expanding his knowledge with numerous qualifications and is actively pursuing further studies in dog training and nursing.
Pivotal roles at Good Karma Assistance Dogs CIC
As a second founder and director, Nico plays a crucial role in the operations and success of Good Karma Assistance Dogs CIC. His responsibilities are diverse and impactful, encompassing administration, serving as a Data Protection Officer (DPO), and applying his creative talents as a graphic designer. Furthermore, Nico is an integral part of the safeguarding team, heads our fundraising efforts, and contributes significantly as an assistance dog trainer and behaviourist. His extensive involvement ensures the smooth running and ethical standards of our organisation.
Expertise and qualifications in dog training
Nico brings a wealth of experience to the assistance dog community, having trained assistance dogs for over four years and pet dogs for even longer. His commitment to professional development is evident through his qualifications and certifications from a reputable dog training college. Additionally, he holds a Level 2 certification in safeguarding and allergy awareness. Always seeking to enhance his knowledge and skills, Nico is currently looking into pursuing IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) qualifications to further benefit our dogs and their handlers.
